There have been many small-scale studies on this topic, but here are the two most popular.

A 2019 study in the Journal of Sports Medicine concluded that the diet had no effect on performance for most athletes who followed a keto diet, and only some benefits for “short duration, vigorous-intensity tests” where weight loss was also a factor. 

Another study conducted in 2020 analyzed prior studies and concluded that more research needs to be done on the effectiveness of keto for athletes but that there’s substantial evidence that it’s good for improved body composition.
